Synopsis

A figure formed of random sketch-like textures will dance around the space, where a pencil stroke will follow the path of one of their hands. The Camera will then explore the 3D space/sculpture being formed by the figure’s arm strokes.

Research: Take On Me (1985) A-ha

This music video's use of random pencil lines/drawings feels very analogue in nature, where we get to see all of the imperfections the pencil strokes has

Research- Duet

Glen Keane's 'Duet' is absolutely gorgeous. The traditional pencil animation combined with the subtle blue glow highlights the imperfections of the pencils beautifully and adds a modern feel to it. Perhaps I could add a glow to my project to capture the same feelings 'Duet' gives

Research: Pas de deux (1968) Norman McLaren

Pas de deux seems to capture the beautiful nature of arcs and movement in humans . It also feels very old fashioned with it's use of only black-and-white - something I would like to try reproduce in my own work. Much like as·phyx·i·a, it seems to feel very sculptural in nature.

Research: as·phyx·i·a

I like the fact that in as·phyx·i·a, there are many glitches and imperfections, with the randomness of the dots/ joints creating an unpredictable yet a still beautiful performance, that feels very analogue - despite the fact that it is completely digital. It also seems to turn the human form into a completely new sculpture-something that I would like to attempt to achieve in my own work

Inspiration: Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse

While I don’t want to emulate the specific art style that this incredible film has, I feel inspired by this film for its use of combining analogue and digital : comic books and 3D animation, where it embraces the imperfections that can
come with hand-drawn imagery.

Inspiration: Theory and Context

Through our Theory and Context lecture, we have been learning about the differences between digital and analogue. For my motion capture project, I want to capture the imperfections and unpredictable nature of analogue artwork, but in a fashion that turns out to be completely digital; merging old and new together to make an entirely new experience, and making my viewers feel a sense of nostalgia.
